Our Family Serving Your Family Since 1963

Thermostats

If you’re like most of us, aside from the occasional dusting, you probably don’t give your home’s thermostat much thought. But your thermostat is the connection point between you and your family’s comfort and therefore an essential part of your heating and AC system.

Thermostats have come a long way in the last few years. They are no longer simple on-off switches; it’s a bonafide smart electronic device chock full of features and functions. And no matter how sleek thermostats look, there’s a whole lot of programming behind them. That means a lot of new stuff for you to learn!

But never fear – we are a Google Nest Pro Elite installer – one of the only certified Pros in the Los Angeles area. Our teams knows all the ins and outs of nearly every thermostat brand, including Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell, and the manufacturer-specific thermostats like those from Carrier. Contact us today for anything you need related to your thermostat!

Thermostat Replacement – When you replace your HVAC system, it is a good time to replace your thermostat. But, even if your HVAC system is in great shape, you may also want to rethink, “Is it time to replace my thermostat?”. If you are interested in lower energy bills, remote access, and a connected home, the answer is an easy YES. Now is the time to upgrade from that old thermostat to a new digital thermostat or go top-of-the-line with a Google Nest thermostat.

Thermostat Setup, Troubleshooting, and Repair – if your thermostat is not responsive, making weird sounds, displaying icons you’ve never seen, or just making you crazy – we can help. Our thermostat experts at Canoga Park Heating & Air Conditioning will fix your thermostat and get your system operating like normal.

Thermostat Types

If your thermostat is older than 5 years, it might be time to think about a replacement. Not necessarily because your thermostat stopped working, but because thermostat technology has come so far! Thermostats come in many varieties.

Smart Thermostats

Newer, smart thermostats are digital and capable of handling high efficiency, multi-stage heating and cooling systems. Some are also capable of integrating your variable energy cost to adjust your home to pre-set temperatures to keep your energy bills low.

Google Nest even offers learning thermostats. These thermostats track your family’s habits over time, and anticipate your needs to adjust settings accordingly. You can also monitor and adjust your home’s temperature right from your smartphone. Imagine being able to adjust your home’s temperature while on vacation to save extra energy. Or, change the temp back to your preferred setting after your kids have changed the temperature thinking you won’t notice…

Some of the really smart thermostats can even integrate ceiling fan controls and interface with your whole home smart system. No need to interrupt family time, let Alexa take care of it for you.

Programmable Digital Thermostats

If you’re not ready to fully dive into the connected home world, a programmable digital thermostat might be a good option. These devices allow you to set schedules for each day or weekdays and weekends (a 5+2 or 5+1+1 schedule). The challenge with programs is that most people never set them up, or if they do, they are constantly overriding their own settings. This means that you’re not getting the advertised energy savings.

But if you do want to go with a digital thermostat, look for one that has a lighted display. That way, you can see your temperature settings no matter how much light is in your hallway.

Contact Thermostats

Older contact thermostats rely on a tube of mercury to tip over every time your home’s heating and AC needs to click on or off. So compared to the hundreds of functions built in to smart thermostats, you just get one function in a contact thermostat: on or off. And although simplicity may sound refreshing, there are a lot of challenges with these old style thermostats. First, they are not programmable and notoriously inaccurate. And, they require manual adjustment to change the temperature, which means you could be using more energy and putting more wear on your HVAC than you really need.
